After two years at the Saarbrücken Opera, the Czech soprano Olga Jelínková is heading for an engagement in Leipzig, where she will be, among other things, Adina in Donizetti’s opera The Drink of Love directed by Rolland Villazón. In addition, she is once again invited to the Comic Opera in Berlin for a series of November and December performances as The Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Flute. In the coming season, he will play the Guild in a new production of Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Prague National Theater. Kateřina Motlová informed about it on behalf of the artist.
“I feel that I have to move on. The conditions they offered me in Leipzig are so friendly that there is no other way than to accept them,” said Jelínková.
The season in Leipzig will begin with the Queen of the Night and Violetta Valéry from Verdi’s La Traviata. This will be followed by the main role of Adina in Donizetti’s The Drink of Love. “The director is a versatile artist and stellar tenor Rollando Villazón. He has fresh ideas and a great sense of humor, which suits me and what he really applies to this comic opera. Richard Wagner and the audience are very demanding of the singers in this direction, “said Jelínková.
Jelínková comes to the Leipzig Opera after a successful season, which she began with her debut at the Vienna National Opera. She continued to perform at the Comic Opera in Berlin or at the Opera in Saska Kamenice and in her hometown of Saarbrücken.
The artist visits Prague several times during the season as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Flute and studies the role of the Guild in Verdi’s Rigoletto. “I would like to perform more often in Prague, but unfortunately it was not possible to find dates well in advance. I spent the whole coronavirus period in Germany and it was not known for a long time how it would actually be with possible travel between the two countries,” said Jelínková.
Jelínková has performed on the stages of the National Theater in Prague, the Moravian-Silesian National Theater in Ostrava, and increasingly also on foreign stages in the USA, Germany, Belgium and Japan. In addition to the Queen of the Night, she regularly sings Verdi’s Guild in Rigoletto or the Olympia doll in Offenbach’s Hoffman short stories.
